The fresh and modern interior immediately appeals to the customers and the menu was given an original twist. MacaronManon went on a discovery tour of Ostend’s latest hotspot!
If you are into traditional Belgian-French cuisine, you have definitely come to the right place. Restaurant 21 serves dishes such as shrimp croquettes and a steak with French fries. You can, however, also opt for an exquisite menu with lots of world cuisine influences. If you do decided to try the menu, you will not be served large and heavy portions, but refined dishes, which focus on taste rather than quantity.
"On the beverage list you will find an extensive offer of traditional aperitifs, Gin & Tonics and cocktails. We sipped a Margarita and a passion fruit Mojito, which were both served in an attractive and tasteful manner. In addition to fines wines from traditional wine-producing countries such as France, Austria and Italy, the wine list also features a number of wines from Chile and New Zealand. The French Sancerre Cellier de la Tour that we drank was also very appealing."
"The cool, modern and light interior immediately creates a feeling of peace and tranquillity! The stylish decorations, cosy tables and exquisite tableware are not exactly what you expect to find in a casino, but it is a nice surprise indeed. On busy casino nights, you can even feel the lively atmosphere of the gaming floor in the restaurant."
"We opted for the menu and started with a trio of appetizers: parsnip soup, tuna tartare and a tarama. Afterwards, I chose the veal tartare with tuna sauce. Tasty, but in my opinion, the tartare could have been chopped into somewhat smaller chunks. My table companion tried the smoked salmon and yuzu rösti. Although it tasted well, the portion was very small indeed. As a main course, I chose the sea bass prepared with a grey shrimp brandade and scallop Carpaccio. Carefully prepared, delicate and refined. The duck breast with a green pepper sauce and yuzu also turned out to be an excellent choice. As a dessert, we were presented a red fruit soup, prepared with fresh figs, cinnamon and honey ice cream. Simple, but certainly very tasty. "
