IN 2010 Vrijstaat O. became a new centre for the arts, and the only coastal one. On 1 January 2017 the De Werf and Vrijstaat O. centres joined forces to become a single new centre for the arts: KAAP. This centre distinguishes itself through its focus on unique formulas based on Ostend's specific combination of water, land, and sea, taking maximum advantage of public spaces.
Due to the renovation of the Royal Galleries, KAAP is seeking alternative venues:
- Music & words: Boudewijn Hall and Elisabeth Hall in Thermae Palace (Koningin Astridlaan 7). Music lives on in this beautiful, historic setting with a view of the sea. Until the return to the Droge Coo, this is the place for Sunday afternoon concerts.
- Film and reflection: Projectvierennegentig (Euphrosina Beernaertstraat 94). This architectural gem in the heart of Ostend is an artistic platform and development space where young artists find their own voice. A place where thinking and creating go hand in hand.
