Im Gebiss Der Zeit – Norbert Schwontkowski (Beaufort 2006)
German painter Schwontkowski created two paintings for the Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul in Ostend. He directly applied the paintings to the window glass in the narthex, designed by Michel Martens in the 1950s. Schwontkowski usually paints sober scenes. Here too, he merely puts a few figurative objects on a neutral or modest background, making his work highly contemplative. His glass painting technique allows him to play with space and interact with the glass frame. With paint of hand-ground pigments and different textures, he paints stories on the theme of life and death, touching the very essence of humanity.
