The spread of the ´Black Lives Matter´ movement around the globe has once again focused attention on the debate about colonial monuments. With their actions, activists questioned the all-too one-sided national colonial history depicted in such monuments. For Beaufort, the Ostend nomadic film and art collective Monokino is seeking a different perspective by creating via film a personal, intimate microperspective on colonial representation. This in contrast to the static statues that look down on us from above. At various locations in the city, these artists are displaying a different vision of our shared past via a fluid, multi-voiced approach in moving images.
