Dansand

Where:
KAAP | Vrijstaat O.
When:
Fri 5 Jul 2019

The Dansand festival is ready for the sixth edition! From 5 to 7 July, dance will once again be taking over the city. This edition focuses on the sensitive body, a body susceptible to influences and impressions. What impact does our environment have on us? How do we feel and experience change? How does our body deal with this? What are the traces that change leaves? Are they visible or only palpable? What new options does it offer? In this way, Dansand makes room for a vulnerability and intimacy for which the speed of our daily lives often leaves no room. We present more than 25 special projects in equally special places. Experience an intimate one-on-one performance. Be guided along a stimulating trail. Or enjoy a choreography on the beach at sunset. The dancers found inspiration in very varied subjects: fathers on the sidelines at the football field, poems by Rilke, the urban entertainment scene etc. In short, a diverse program with something for everyone. Including Daniel Linehan, Claire Croizé / EC-CE, Christian Bakalov, Femke Gyselinck, Mette Edvardsen, James Batchelor, Sung Im Her, Platform-K and many others.

Concert Brassband Burgipja

Where:
Wapenplein
When:
Sun 7 Jul 2019

Burcht and Zwijndrecht (two places in the province of Antwerp, Belgium) both lie on sandy ridges on the edge of a creek area. The naming of the band Burgipja refers to this. The names of Burcht as well as Zwijndrecht derive from the Germanic words 'swina drifti' and 'burgipja'. 'Burgipja' simply means 'birch', which probably refers to the vegetation that grew on the dry sandy soil. 'Swini' and 'drifti' are synonyms and both mean 'creek'. Brassband Burgipja is a new initiative (since January 2008) in the bosom of the nonprofit Koninklijke Katholieke Fanfare (the Royal Catholic Brass and Reed Band) from Burcht. The new name better reflects the occupation they have worked for for the past 10 years. In 2010, the band celebrated its 150 years of existence.

Wapenplein
When:
Mon 8 Jul 2019

Cardiff University Jazz Society was formed in October 2011 from the long-established Big Band Society. We offer students the opportunity to perform, listen to, and appreciate live jazz music. We run several ensembles that perform regularly throughout each academic year: an auditioned Big Band, a Jazz Orchestra, a Sax Choir and a Jazz Choir. The society brings its members together to listen to, and appreciate, live jazz music with other like-minded students. Regular socials include going to gigs in bars around Cardiff as well as concerts promoted by the School of Music and other jazz venues in South Wales. Whether your interest is in the performance or appreciation of jazz music, this is the society for you.
