The Seamen's Memorial (1953) can be found on the Zeeheldenplein. Each year the numerous fishermen from Oostende who died at sea are commemorated. This was also the location of the first lighthouse in Oostende (1771).

Open air center Duin & Zee
The outdoor center Duin en Zee is situated at the border between Bredene en Oostende. The center disposes of a superb children's playground, several sport fields and an athletics' field. The indoor accommodation consits of a theater room, a celebration hall with bar, a children's kitchen, several class rooms and a room for puppet theatre. The center is fully traffic free and offers many possibilities for active distraction and sporting recreation.
